Center for Western Studies

The CWS at AU

Founded by author and Augustana Professor Emeritus of English Dr. Herbert Krause, the center serves as a repository for more than 500 substantive archival collections and maintains a library in excess of 37,000 volumes on the American West.

In addition, the center holds an extensive art and artifact collection and sponsors annual events such as the Boe Forum, Dakota Conference and Artists of the Plains Art Show and Sale.

With more than 75 publications to its credit, the center is a major academic publisher in South Dakota.

Augustana University and the Center for Western Studies (CWS) announced today that free tickets for the 27th Boe Forum on Public Affairs are now available to the public. This year, Augustana’s Boe Forum will feature an evening with New York Times opinion columnist, PBS NewsHour commentator and bestselling author David Brooks. The talk, entitled “America at the Crossroads: The Rule of Law and the Future of Democracy,” will be held at 7:30 p.m., on Tuesday, March 19, in the Elmen Center.
